This week’s movie passion blog for me is an old classic, Home Alone 2. Home Alone 2 is a movie that I can watch over and over again and still laugh just as hard at it as I did the time before.  Even though it was made in 1992, it is still a movie that they always play on television because it is a classic. When my sister and I were little, we would sleep over our grandmother’s house and watch this movie over and over again until we cry from laughing so hard. Joe Pesce is hilarious in this movie and his part in this movie is so well known.

Kevin McCallister seems to be the odd one out of all of his siblings and is always being picked on. Kevin does not seem to help himself though, as he fights back and is always getting into trouble with his parents. It is around Christmas time and the McCallister family is getting ready for their annual vacation, but this year, it is to Florida. The house is filled with holiday and packing chaos as the family of a million people is preparing for their holiday vacation extravaganza.

This year, him and his brother, Buzz, got into a huge fight, ending in Kevin being sent to the attic (his bedroom). His mother goes up there to apologize and Kevin says some regrettable things. Essentially, he told her that he did not want them as his family and if he had money, he would take his own vacation without them. Sure enough, the next morning as the family is supposed to be leaving for vacation, their alarms do not go off and the family is in a state of panic and rushing. The family makes it all the way to the airport and as they are in the air on the plane, they think they forgot something. They think and think and think and realize that they forgot KEVIN.

Kevin does not seem to notice that his family has forgotten him as he goes about his normal morning and daily activities. Then, it just hits him. They forgot him. His self-esteem is at an all time low at this point as he thinks his family hates him.  Through these few days that he is alone, he realizes that he is being followed by house robbers… the same house robbers that tried to rob his house last year.  The next series of events occurs when Kevin booby traps his entire house for these two robbers and the movie turns into a comedy. Obviously, the movie ends the way it is supposed to, but that is not what I get out of this movie.

What I get out of this movie is to not take your family for granted and they should always be the main priority. Friends may come and go, but family is forever. No matter how much you fight with your family, they unconditionally love you and will never leave your side in any situation.
